R.I.P. Dr. Bill ShortAs of the later half of 2009, I started going back to college in August. The first class I had at 9:00 AM every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, was French with Dr. Short. I had taken a year of French before in High School, and I was ready to do it again. He was an elderly man who walked with a limp that was unnoticed by most (even me until someone pointed it out to me), but he was as active and cheery as ever. He was patient, despite the slowness of many of the students. More over, he made French fun. He had been to France and knew how to properly pronounce French. He knew the origins of many French words. his years of experience really shined. He was teaching French in a way that really helped us learn and comprehend it. My grades for his class in the most recent of days have only been fair, but not to the point of failing. I failed one of his tests, so I wanted to try extra hard to do better on the next one. The last time I saw him, I was taking a test for his class. I had studied very hard. Except for one minor section of the test, I felt like I practically aced it. I was so ready to impress him because I loved learning in classes that challenged me while making it fun and understandable.
Dr. Short has worked at my current college for 25 years. Today, I learned he died on Friday afternoon (November 13) from a torn aorta. May he find eternal rest, and may the lord guide him to his resting place in the heavens.
